Vachan H.U. Creates History with Two Indian National Freediving Records at AIDA World Apnea Pool Championship 2026

Bengaluru: Vachan H.U., an Indian freediving athlete and advocate, has immortalized his name in the history of Indian sportswear by setting two new records in the AIDA World Apnea Pool Championship 2026 held in Budapest, Hungary. Participating for India in one of the biggest international platforms of the sport, Vachan was not only competing with some of the best free-divers around the world, but he also managed to break two Indian National Freediving Records, thus making an incredible milestone in his athletic career.

Pool dynamic freediving is a competitive freediving discipline in which an athlete swims the maximum possible horizontal distance underwater in a swimming pool on a single breath.

In one of the toughest endurance sports that takes place underwater, Vachan has set a new Indian National Record of 153 meters in Dynamic Bi-Fins (DYNB) and a new Indian National Record of 148 meters in Dynamic Apnea (DYN). Both performances were a result of excellent breath control, physical fitness and mental toughness gained during consistent training.

As an advocate by profession, Vachan was managing both a legal and athletic career simultaneously. His story shows that commitment to excellence can help people succeed in different areas.

It is noteworthy that this championship became a landmark event for India’s freediving, since it marked the country’s debut in the AIDA World Apnea Pool Championships organized by the International Association for the Development of Apnea. Thus, the performance of Vachan deserves a special mention, since he managed to win three “white cards” in the course of the team’s activity.

Speaking about his achievements, the sportsman mentioned that representing his country on the international arena and breaking the records had become one of the most proud experiences in his life. Every training and each challenge that he faced were worth it just for the chance to carry the Indian flag during the championship in the rising global sport.

Considering future perspectives of his career, Vachan still plans to set better results, break barriers, and encourage more people in India to join freediving competitions. Hopefully, this sportsman’s experience will become the motivation for the future competitors to engage in non-conformist sports disciplines and prove their skills against the best representatives of other countries. Thus, the unique successes of Vachan H.U. are the result of hard work and pioneer spirit of Indian athletes.
